Majapahit’s traces in Papua are mentioned in the Negarakertagama book, here’s the explanation

Majapahit was the last Hindu-Buddhist empire to rule the archipelago as well as the largest monarchy in Indonesian history.

Not only did he control the islands of Indonesia, the Majapahit government at that time was said to have stretched to the Malay Peninsula and the Sulu Islands, Philippines

So it is not surprising that Fakfak, which was part of the West Papua region, also did not escape the leadership of Hayam Wuruk.

Fakfak is also known as the Old City, because of its history and struggles during the colonial period. Apart from that, this city is nicknamed the government city and Nutmeg City because of its commodities.

In fact, this city is also mentioned in the classic book Negarakertagama (1365 AD) which states a number of areas located in the eastern part of Indonesia, namely the names Wwanin, Sran, and Timur.

According to ancient Javanese experts, Wwanin is another name for the Onin area (Jazirah Onin) in Fakfak, which is currently the oldest district in Papua.

According to Johszua Robert Mansoben in his research entitled Traditional Political Systems in Irian Jaya, long before the enforcement of the Dutch Colonial Government in Papua Province and West Papua Province on the west coast of Papua there were initially several royal areas on the Onin Peninsula.

The West Coast region of Papua has three traditional kingdoms, namely the Rumbati Kingdom, the Fatagar Kingdom and the Atiati Kingdom.

Where the Fatagar kingdom is an Islamic kingdom founded by the Uswanas clan in the east of Fakfak District, West Papua. The kingdom or Petuanan Fatagar has traditional territories in the Fakfak and Pariwari Districts.
